Chiang Rai and Bamboo Nest

We spent a few days in Chiang Rai to recover from Pai and the long journey from there to here. Alan showed us around and took us to the night market to enjoy his favourite dinner! On the way we passed the novelty clock which changes colour, plays music and generally entertains passers-by every hour during the evening. We visited the museum to improve our understanding of the different hill tribes and ate lunch in a cafe called Cabbages and Condoms which supports a family planning/aids project which operates in several cities.

From Chiang Rai we retraced Alan’s steps to Bamboo Nest, to see what all the fuss was about! It is a tranquil oasis, up in the hills. Alan and I walked to the waterfall, one of the best I’ve seen. Janet exercised her injured foot up and down the site and John did his yoga!

We can’t stay in paradise indefinitely so tomorrow we’ll set off at 6.30 am to cross the border into Laos and then spend two days travelling on a slow boat to a place called Luang Prabang. We’ve no idea when we’ll next be online!

  1. Bamboo Nest looks great!

  2. Certainly is! Thought you’d have escaped back to Spain by now!
