Safely Arrived in Bangkok

The journey was long but uneventful. We recommend Eva Air for trips in this direction, their “Elite” class seats are pretty comfortable!
The Ban Dinso hotel is a calm oasis in the middle of historic Bangkok.

We walked to the Grand Palace this morning to see the famous Emerald Buddha, various other temples and the ceremonial base of the Thai Royal family. All gold and mosaic encrusted! The king is 86 and said to be frail. He’s held in high regard and displays celebrating his birthday in December are still around.

Political protests are continuing in Bangkok but not currently in this area – we haven’t seen any sign of them.
We leave tomorrow morning for Chiang Mai where we’ll be staying with Alan’s Aunt Pisamai, widow of Uncle Eric, for a few days.
